How to Start Repurposing Content
Repurposing content is a great way to maximize reach and save time creating new content. Essentially, repurposing your content allows you to be more efficient, creative, and thoughtful about the different impacts that your content can have on your existing—and potential—audience. So what is repurposed content? How can you start repurposing your content? (Or hire an awesome agency to repurpose it for you ;)?) Read on to find out how to repurpose your content!
How to Start Repurposing Content
Repurposing Blogs and Articles
Blogs and articles are my absolute favorite things to repurpose because it’s such a considerable, beefy amount of content with so much potential! You can turn them into newsletters, emails, and social media posts and even expand them into books and courses. It’s all a matter of what niche your content fits into and which platforms suit that niche best.
One of the most common and easy ways to repurpose blogs and articles is by turning them into social media posts.
You can do anything from:
- posting the blog directly,
- posting a snippet with a link,
- copy/pasting a piece of it with a cool image,
- or rewording a thought from it with or without some imagery.
It’s also a great idea to use blogs and articles as the foundation for more extensive types of content. This is beneficial to keep in mind if you notice that one of your blogs or articles is very popular. It could be a sign that you should elaborate on this topic! When this happens, it’s a wonderful opportunity to try creating a course or writing a book or series expanding on the topic.
Repurposing Social Media Posts
Social media posts can seem like a one-and-done kind of thing, but they really can be repurposed very easily! For example, you can take one Facebook post, and repurpose it for Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn, and even YouTube, and more! That’s the easiest way to repurpose social media content because it’s as simple as widening the audience by tweaking image sizes and character counts/text style.
Another way to repurpose social media posts is to expand them. Since the nature of social media is so interactive, you can use the feedback of where your audience naturally takes your posts and use that to guide you to expand on the topic in different ways! You can turn a single social media post into a blog, article, newsletter, course, book, series, etc. Social media allows you to gain great insight into how your audience will respond to you, repurposing it into more long-form content.
Repurposing Video/Audio Content
Videos and audio content like podcasts are awesome pieces of content to have on their own. However, they also offer many repurposing opportunities! For example, videos and audio can be turned into written content, which can then be repurposed even further into the types of content we talked about above.
You can also turn them into other videos and pieces of audio! So, for example, if you have a podcast episode where you talked about something creative you enjoy doing, you can repurpose that into a video tutorial of that thing.
*A bonus way to expand your audience, but slightly different from repurposing, is to provide audio and video content captioning. This can grow your audience to those who may not be able to enjoy your content without this provision!
As you can see, repurposing your content isn’t as difficult as you might have previously thought. All you need is a little bit of open-mindedness and creativity, and you can repurpose virtually any piece of content that you create.
